If you would like to take the 4-week course please click the CLASS PACK SPECIAL and select this course.

1.   Our children are bombarded with millions of images. This society operates in the Freudian belief that everything must be about sex and aggression to the point that they say, “sex sells” and so does violence. With violent video games and movies, sexual lyrics in songs, rape scenes in middle school books, sexual harassment on the news, it is nearly impossible to shield our children from the bombardment of inappropriate images and concepts. This introduction course will equip families with the ability to critically analyze what is going into our minds.

2.    Students will learn the criteria for evaluating films that they will use immediately after class and for the rest of their lives. They will be able to understand how media influences behavior and not be easily manipulated.

3.    Students will examine and experience mental conditioning, auto-suggestion, subliminal messages, and other techniques of brainwashing. We will look at psychological experiments to control minds including the CIA program MK Ultra and CIA’s Operation Mockingbird.

4.    Students will investigate Edward Bernay’s public relations and Joseph Goebel’s Nazi propaganda. They will read excerpts from Amusing Ourselves to Death by Neil Postman and the Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television by Jerry Mander. Students will see how propaganda was used to manipulate the population in futuristic books like George Orwell’s 1984 and Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World. They will learn the sick history of Walt Disney and how cartoons and other media that seem the most harmless, “just entertainment,” is really the most destructive to our minds.

5.  Students will learn the rules “Hollyweird” will not break when it comes to Black films and how we should break them all with our films. We will examine positive or proper propaganda like Sankofa, Besouro and the classic series that came out before its time starring Avery Brooks’ A Man Called Hawk.

6.    We will examine the history of media in America and how Black people were depicted, but also how we became newscasters and the role of Black newspapers in the 1900s.

7.    Students will watch video clips and even examine their favorite films. We won’t strip the programs of their fun, but we will identify what the intentions of each scene are designed to do.

***Participants will be required to bring clips from their favorite shows to analyze. Participants must be fully involved. Watch numerous videos, complete readings, and make a plan of how they will create proper propaganda for our people.
