1.    Students will be immersed in the teachings of Afrikan philosophers and spiritual systems that have developed good character for thousands of years. We will familiarize ourselves with the work of Ankhsheshonqi who wrote, “It is in the development of character that instruction succeeds.” We will also explore the Yoruba Empire and the spiritual teachings of Odu Ifa (Yoruba Ethical Teachings) Ogbe Tura 39:1, “If we have money and do not have character the money belongs to someone else. Character, iwa, is what we are looking for, character. “

2.    Students will be presented with codes of good character. We will examine Afrikan legends, modern and old and answer questions like: How does one become legendary? What must one do to exemplify good character? What happens when you don’t have good character? Can lying make you go crazy and make it so you can’t even trust yourself?

3.    Students will examine how stories like Aesop’s fables, Anansi, and Brer Rabbit taught us to have good character with each other, but to use deception with outsiders to protect our community.

4.    Students will learn how Afrikan people held each other accountable in ancient times. Students will also explore: What is honor and why is it so important? And, what is the significance of healthy bonding to a people?

5.    Students will learn how Europeans created a society that rewards bad character to create disunity, disharmony, and disintegration. We will look at the music industry as a primary example.

6.    Students will practice character building by playing games that develop group dependency.

7.    Students will come up with ideas on how they can improve their families and communities by demonstrating acts of good character.

*** Participants are expected to participate in all activities and change their behavior based on what they learn in this series. Become a better family member, team player and organizer for Afrikan people.
